“If we are kind to others and willing to help living creatures, we will
always be taken care of by providence.”---This is the timeless message of the book. Vibrantly and captivatingly illustrated by Phyllis Mae Fisher and Douglas Wayne Fisher, “Twiglet” the Little Christmas Tree, is an engaging tale of Christmas spirit and compassion.
This is the story of twins, Rueben and Rachel Oliver, and “Twiglet”. The
orphaned twins live with Gramma Oliver in a little old cabin, in a town called
“Snowflake”. In spite of their humble background, they never hesitate to share their last morsel and are always helpful to others, be it people or animals. The unexpected discovery of “Twiglet”, the little Christmas tree with a white top-notch, is a sign of goodwill. Every new Christmas is a harbinger of exciting events and warm friendships.
While teaching values, the book offers educational value, as well. Rhymes
like ---“March is in, the winds begin.” or “November days of rest, after
harvests’ best.”--- teach children about the ever-changing seasons and what
makes each month special. Vivid descriptions and colorful illustrations bring
the holidays alive. Children are introduced to various professions through the
portraits of Grandpa Shepherd, Smithy Peters, Doctor Luke, Parson Johnson, Miss Sarah, and others. The glossary is an excellent accompaniment to enhance vocabulary.
Forecast: A heartwarming story, charming pictures, lively characters,
large print and comb binding, make this entertaining and informative book a
perfect gift for young children.

...of the "Twiglet" the Little Christmas Tree Survey
I really liked the story because Christmas time is my favorite time of the year. "Twiglet" the Little Christmas Tree brought the family together and they had a nice Christmas.
Richard Whitlock, Age 7, Shafter, CA

I like how Gran'pa planted the trees. Then one of the seeds fell out and Bright picked up the little seed. Twiglet brought the twins and Bright and Gran'pa together. I love this story. It was a good story.
Casandra Whitlock, Age 9, Shafter, CA

"Twiglet" the Little Christmas Tree is a very warm and happy story. It shows that you don't need all the money inthe world to be happy for Christmas. All you need is only the people you love and care about the most in your life. Even though Gran'pa and Bright weren't family to the twins and Gramma O., they still shared their presents and company on Christmas Eve. Twiglet brought all of them together and made one big happy family.
Rashelle Whitlock, Age 15, Shafter, CA

"Twiglet the Little Christmas Tree" is a delightful, heartwarming story full of real life experiences with a dash of holiday magic. Thank you Phyllis and Janey for showing me that miracles really can happen.

As I have come to know the “Fisher” family and experience first hand the gifts bestowed upon each of the individual members, I am delighted that they have decided to pass on the legacy to future generations. Grandma Phyllis’ beautiful artistic talent will now live on in the hearts, eyes, and memories of all who are fortunate in sharing her wonderful illustrations. Such a delightful story...I’ll be looking for Twiglet this year as we search for our miracle at Christmas. I am looking forward to having the pleasure of sharing the Twiglet story and illustrations with my grandchildren.
Jann Hardy, Homemaker, Taft, CA

I completely enjoyed this story. I laughed, I cried, I felt the story. It took me back to the tales my grandparents and daddy would tell me as a child. We need more stories like this to share with our children today. We need more back to basics stuff in this rush, rush world we live in today. People have slipped so far away from values, morals and respect, it’s unreal. Your book is refreshing , reminding us that good people and things do exist and that God is still as real as ever. Hats off to you! GREAT story! Can’t wait to share it with my kids!
Dorothy Dingle, Driver, horse trainer, groomer, mom, wife, farmer, Dustin Acres, CA

The story is charming and full of good values and traditions. It could be used as a model for those who never had a family and wonder about families. Good job!! A great book for schools and libraries!!

The following is an excerpt from:

"Twiglet" the Little Christmas Tree

"A long time ago, on a Christmas tree farm, a tree with a white top-notch showed up.  It was time to harvest the trees and "Twiglet" joined the trees in the wagon.  The old farmer, Gran'pa Shepherd and his grandson, Bright, hauled the trees to the nearest town called “Snowflake".  Twiglet fell off the wagon and landed by the wayside!  Rueben and Rachel Oliver came across Twiglet while gathering wood.  They lived with their Gramma O in a little old cabin, down a little old lane, among the tall pine trees.  Christmas would not be the same this year, because they had lost their mother and father to the fever, on a ship bound for South America.   Gramma O rejoiced with the twins over finding the little Christmas tree, saying that the white top-notch was a good sign and they must try to decorate him! Gramma O lit the old kerosene lamp as they decorated the parlor and "Twiglet".  Snowflakes as big as gumdrops, were falling from the frosty, night sky!  Gran'pa Shepherd and Bright were hurrying to get home when the wagon wheel broke… "
